Why I’m Standing for Northland Regional Council in 2025

Kia ora koutou,

My name is Tui Shortland and I’m standing for the Northland Regional Council in this 2025 election because I believe in the strength and potential of our beautiful region. As a proud Northlander, deeply connected to this whenua and moana through my whakapapa, I understand how much we all want to protect and grow what makes Northland unique — its environment, its people, and its future.

With years of experience in regional governance, including chairing significant council plans and working closely with iwi and hapū, I’ve seen firsthand what good leadership can achieve. I want to bring that proven leadership back to NRC, focusing on decisions that balance environmental protection, economic opportunity, and social wellbeing.

Our region faces serious challenges — climate change impacts, infrastructure needs, and the need to build a strong economy that works for everyone. But I believe that with clear vision, strong partnerships, and a commitment to listen to our communities, we can turn these challenges into opportunities.

I’m here to serve you — to make decisions today that our mokopuna will thank us for tomorrow. I invite you to join the conversation, share your ideas, and help shape the future of Northland.

No reira, kia kaha tātou katoa.
